improvisation
The members of ZING! are all steeped in the tradiion of jazz, but have also explored other contexts for improvisation in their craft. Our interactive and engaging workshops focusing on improvisation can be shaped to coach small ensembles, big bands, or beginning improvisers and can focus on traditional jazz or more experimental and all-encompassing approach.
composition
The members of ZING! have had experience composing for a variety of groups and styles, including chamber music, small group jazz, music for film and theatre, experimental large ensembles, and psychedelic rock bands. A composition workshop is appropriate for advanced jazz and open-minded music students.
music business
Members of ZING! have experience developing independent record labels and local music festivals. ZING! was involved with the initiation of Ears & Eyes Records and have toured extensively across North America.
ensemble clinics
The range of professional performance experience by each of the members of ZING! is vast, including playing and recording with UNT’s One O’Clock Lab Band, playing musicals, straight ahead jazz with some of the top Chicago jazz artists, playing totally improvised music and free jazz with Chicago’s top avant garde artists, playing and recording heavy metal, extensive touring with an afro-beat/funk/dance band, playing neo-psychadelic-post-rock-jazz and much more.
